Major Corporations Boost Donations for Trump's Inauguration
Major U.S. corporations are making substantial contributions to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration fund, with Boeing and Google each donating $1 million. Boeing, which has a history of supporting presidential inaugurations, stated that this donation continues its bipartisan tradition.
Google's contribution marks a significant increase from its previous donations, more than tripling the amount given in 2017. The tech giant also plans to livestream the inauguration on YouTube and feature a direct link on its homepage.
Other technology companies, including Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Uber, have each pledged $1 million to the inauguration fund. Notably, executives like Sam Altman of OpenAI and Dara Khosrowshahi of Uber have made personal donations of the same amount.
The influx of corporate donations has led to a record-breaking total for Trump's second inauguration, surpassing the $106.8 million raised for his first in 2017. Since his election victory in November, Trump has raised over $200 million, with at least $150 million allocated for the inauguration.
This substantial financial support from the tech industry represents a shift from the 2016 election, where many Silicon Valley leaders were hesitant to back Trump. The increased contributions may indicate an effort by these companies to align with the incoming administration.
The inauguration is scheduled for January 20, marking the beginning of Trump's second term as President of the United States.
