IndiGo, India's leading low-cost airline, has solidified its position as the largest foreign carrier operating out of Sri Lanka. The airline currently operates 54 weekly flights connecting Sri Lanka to four major Indian cities: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. These flights serve two key destinations in Sri Lanka—Colombo and Jaffna—highlighting IndiGo's commitment to enhancing connectivity between the two nations.

This expansion is a strategic move by IndiGo to strengthen its global presence and cater to the growing demand for travel between India and Sri Lanka. The direct flights are expected to stimulate tourism, foster economic growth, and promote cultural exchange between the countries. Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo's Global Sales Head, emphasized the airline's dedication to providing punctual, cost-effective, and seamless travel experiences across its extensive network.

The increased frequency of flights, including operations to Jaffna, is anticipated to benefit Sri Lanka economically by attracting more Indian tourists, thereby contributing to the country's tourism revenue. Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, commended IndiGo for its role in enhancing connectivity and strengthening ties between the nations.
