Cigarette and Liquor Prices Increase Amid New Excise Duties
Effective January 11, 2025, the Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) has raised cigarette prices in response to an increase in Excise Duty. The prices for Capstan and John Player cigarettes have risen by Rs. 5 per stick, while the 83mm Gold Leaf brand has seen an increase of Rs. 10 per stick.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has announced a 6% increase in Excise Duty on liquor, effective from January 11, 2025. This adjustment means that the price of a 750 ml bottle of special liquor will rise by at least Rs. 106. Other types of liquor will also experience a 5% price increase.
These price adjustments are part of the government's fiscal measures to increase revenue. Consumers can expect higher costs for these products starting from the specified dates.
